Sanitary Pad Drive: Fighting Period Poverty in Zimbabwe Schools

6 Schools, 3 Months, 1 Mission

“A girl’s period should never be a barrier to her future.”

Across the world, millions of girls face period poverty — the lack of access to sanitary pads, menstrual health education, and hygiene facilities. This barrier often robs them of their confidence, dignity, and school attendance.

To change that, HelloPaisa launched its Sanitary Pad Drive this Women’s Month, with a clear mission: to support girls’ education, health, and self-worth.

Phase One: Reaching St Marnocks & Makomo Primary Schools

Our first visits took place at St Marnocks Primary School and Makomo Primary School in Zimbabwe. The results were inspiring:

  • 2,326 sanitary pads donated

  • 1,163 girls supported

  • Countless smiles and gratitude from school staff and students

The heartfelt thanks from teachers reminded us just how urgent and impactful this initiative is.

Why Menstrual Health Matters for Girls’ Education

In Zimbabwe, period poverty remains a silent crisis. Many young girls miss school every month, fall behind in their studies, and face long-term challenges because of something as natural as menstruation.

The Sanitary Pad Drive Campaign was created to flip that reality — turning period poverty into period positivity. Every donated pad represents more than a product: it’s a chance at possibility, dignity, and a brighter future.

Alongside pad distribution, we also introduced educational workshops on menstrual hygiene, developed in collaboration with Anna Chibaby Honde.

Building BrightHER, BoldHER, BraveHER Futures

This campaign isn’t only about products — it’s about empowerment. By combining donations, education, and community support, we’re nurturing:

  • Confidence – helping young women feel proud, not ashamed

  • Dignity – restoring the right to manage periods safely

  • Opportunity – ensuring no girl’s education is interrupted

Together, we’re proving that when communities unite with compassion, real change happens.

What’s Next: Four More Schools Ahead

With four more schools on our list, HelloPaisa is more inspired than ever. Our journey continues school by school, girl by girl, until every young woman knows that her future is worth fighting for.

We’re grateful to the Ministry of Education, St Marnocks Primary School, Makomo Primary School, and every partner who has made this campaign possible.
